Strinesdale Matador

Matador has become a living legend, as one of the most prolific stock getters in the world today. Foaled in 1990 Matador was purchased as a foal by Liz Mansfield of the Rotherwood Stud (who still owns him). A son of her own stallion "Troubadour" Liz was impressed by his presence and authority when just a foal. As a yearling he qualified for the In-Hand Final at Wembley, winning the pony section. He was Ponies UK Champion at three years old by which time he had commenced his illustrious stud career. The list of Matadors successful progeny is endless, time and time again he has Champions at National and county level in Riding Pony, Hunter Pony, Show Hack and Intermediate classes and he now has several competition ponies particularly in Dressage. At the 2005 HOYS Matador had 15 individual entries in 18 classes and these included the Cuddy In-Hand Champion: Rotherwood Take A Peep (previously Ridden Pony Champion in 2003) and the Show Hunter Pony Champion Crafton Waltz of the Toreadors.

His frozen semen has been exported to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and he has had a Pony of the Year in Australia.

Matadors fine paces and temperament have been recognised as well in the Sports Pony world with his inclusion on the American Sports Pony Society register and the British Sports Pony Studbook Society register both extremely influential in the new and exciting world of Sports Ponies.

Unfortunately Matador is no longer at Public Stud due to an arthritic problem. He is still covering a limited number of mares belonging to his owner Liz Mansfield-Parnell and our own Pickmere mares. Therefore you can still get a `Mattie` if you are lucky, give us a call to see what is available.
